Es un aminoácido natural intermediario de la biosintesis de los neurotransmisores serotonina y melatonina a partir de triptófano. Se vende como suplemento dietético.

Usos: ataxia, cefalea, depresión, ansiedad, obesidad, insomnio, fibromialgia

Partes utilizadas: sustancia química subproducto del l-trip-tofano, componente de las proteínas. También se produce comercialmente a partir de las semillas de una planta Africana (Griffonia simplicifolia).

Cómo se usa: grageas, capsulas…

Efectos secundarios por sobredosificación: fibrosis cardiaca, acidez, dolor estomacal, náusea, vómito, diarrea, somnolencia, problemas sexuales, problemas musculares, hipertensión. Consultar con especialista.

Contraindicaciones: embarazo y lactancia. Drogas para la depresión. Consultar con especialista

Interacción con medicamentos: Inhibidores de la MAO. Carbidopa. Serotonina. Consultar con especialista.

Interacción con plantas y suplementos: Hipérico, adenosilmetionina, l-triptofano, Enredadera elefanta…
